The Baidi Commandery and the Shang Commandery were both invaded by the Xiongnu in 177 BCE. The invasions might be better called "massive raids." The ultimate goal of both raids was not to acquire territory, but rather to take possession of whatever gold, silver, horses, and valuable items that were found. The Xiongnu left both commanderies after a large Han Chinese army arrived in the vicinity. |
